Description
Numbers 18 to 24 form a terrace of seven houses built around 1845 in Islington. The houses are constructed of buff stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with Welsh and artificial slate gabled roofs and brick ridge stacks. They are arranged in a crescent shape, with two windows on each upper floor and a basement level. The basement windows have flat brick arches and original 8/8 sashes, with some later 2/2 sashes. Steps lead up to round-arched doorways, each having a mid-19th century 4-panelled door set in a wooden architrave with pilaster jambs, except for Number 18. Ground-floor windows are similarly arched, with glazing bars. First-floor windows have gauged-brick flat arches and mostly 8/8 sashes, with a few later 2/2 sashes with horns. A raised stucco band and dentilled brick cornice run along the front. Dormers in the roof have 3/3 sashes and casements. Wrought-iron railings enclose the front courts. Sashes with glazing bars are present at the rear. The interior of Number 21 features a dog-leg staircase with winders. The houses were first occupied in 1846.
