Description

The statue of a lion is located in the southeast corner of the garden of The Wardroom at HMS Nelson in Portsmouth. Originally part of the barrack block at HMS Nelson Barracks, building No. 14, this carving dates from 1847 to 1848 and was moved to its current location in the late 20th century. The statue is made of ashlar and depicts a large, snarling lion in a couchant position, supporting a banner.
