Description
The HMS Centurion Memorial is a monument located in Victoria Park, Portsmouth, built around 1902. It features a polished pink granite column topped with an elaborate finial, standing on a square base made of grey unpolished granite that is set on a stepped sub-base. The column has a metal leaf motif at its center and includes a bronze bust of a Centurion integrated into the base. This memorial was erected by Admiral Sir C.H. Seymore, G.C.B., along with the Captain, Officers, and Ship's Company of H.M.S. Centurion. It honors the officers and men of the ship who were killed or died from wounds sustained while valiantly serving in the Naval Brigade during the North China campaign in 1900, as well as those who died during the ship's commission from 1897 to 1901. The memorial also lists casualties and mentions the locations Peitsang, Hsiku, Peiyang, and Tientsin.
