Description

Felton House (Number 12) is a pair of 18th-century houses located on the High Street in Portsmouth. Number 12 is built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while Number 13 is stuccoed. Both houses have plain tile roofs, with a half-hipped roof on the right-hand side. Number 12 has a brick chimney stack on the left and at the rear, and a rendered stack to the right. Number 13 has a rendered stack.

Number 12 has three storeys and an attic and presents a single large bay. Number 13 has three bays. The entrance to Number 12 features a door of six fielded panels, with panelled reveals, a soffit, fluted pilasters, and an entablature with a dentilled cornice. Above the doorway are two late 19th-century sash windows set beneath gauged brick flat arches. A 19th-century oriel window is on the first floor, featuring a central sash flanked by narrower sashes, an apron, and a console bracketed cornice. A stone-coped parapet tops Number 12, punctuated by two hipped dormers.

Number 13 has three sash windows to the ground floor, set beneath flat arches with flanking pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. A 19th-century yard doorway sits on the right with heavy console brackets to a panelled entablature and a pediment. The first and second floors have two sash windows set under flat arches. Number 13 has a brick-on-edge coped parapet and two hipped roof dormers. An entrance door is located on the right return. The interior has not been inspected.
