Description
This is a late 18th-century building originally comprising three houses, now numbered 14, 15, and 16A, located on the High Street in Portsmouth. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, topped with three hipped roofs and a brick stack on the right-hand side. It is three storeys high and five bays wide.
Number 14 features a six-panelled front door on the left-hand side, with the lower panels being flush, the central two fielded and the top two glazed, set within a late 19th-century surround of heavy, fluted pilasters and a pediment. Number 15 has a central six-panelled door with glazed upper panels, accompanied by pilasters, a frieze and a projecting cornice. Number 16A boasts a four-panelled door with glazed upper panels, situated within an early 19th-century surround featuring fluted console brackets and a moulded cornice. Each door is preceded by a single stone step, and a rendered plinth runs between them. The ground floor has two twelve-paned sash windows on either side of the central door, each set beneath a gauged brick flat arch. Similar sash windows are found on the first and second floors, although the central first-floor window is now blocked. A brick dentil band runs along the top of the second floor, surmounted by a stone coped parapet. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
