Description

A row of four terraced houses, numbers 6 to 9, located on Bellevue Terrace in Southsea, Portsmouth, built in the early 19th century and subsequently altered in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. Numbers 6 and 7 are now offices, while numbers 8 and 9 are a restaurant occupying a single premise. Numbers 6 and 7 have a stuccoed facade, while numbers 8 and 9 have painted brickwork. All have Welsh slate roofs with brick stacks at the centre.

Each house is three storeys high, with a single wide bay. Number 6 features a 20th-century recessed door with a moulded stone architrave, and to the right, a restored 20th-century three-storey rectangular bay. This bay has a tripartite front on each floor, with a central sash flanked by two narrower sashes, pilasters dividing the lights, a frieze, a modillion cornice, a moulded band cornice above, and a coped parapet. The ground floor has a panelled apron. Number 7 has a six-panelled door, the upper four panels glazed, set within a thin pilaster doorcase with a cut entablature and a small dentil pediment. To the right of the door is a two-storey tripartite canted bay with a centre sash and narrow side sashes, pilasters dividing the lights, a modillion cornice, and a tented roof. The second floor has a later two-light casement, a band course, and a coped parapet.

Numbers 8 and 9, which now form a single restaurant premise, have a four-panelled door on the left of number 8, set within a thin pilaster doorcase with a cornice. Number 9 has a 20th-century door positioned between the bays, with a plain projecting surround. To the right of numbers 8 and 9 are two-storey bay windows, each with a rectangular tripartite front, a centre sash, and narrow flanking and side sashes. Number 9 has 20th-century casements. A canted tripartite bay sits above the first-floor level, featuring a four-pane centre sash and narrow flanking sashes, with pilasters dividing the lights and a cornice. The second floor has a six-pane sash on numbers 8 and 9, a brick dentil band course, and coped parapets. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected.
