Description

This is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, which was substantially altered in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The timber frame was recased at this later date and stuccoed. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with a hipped corner return and a brick chimney stack centrally positioned on the right. The property is two storeys and an attic, with four bays. The central entrance features a five-panel door within a panelled surround, flanked by reeded pilasters and a cornice supported by two shaped brackets over a 19th-century shallow bow window with 36 panes. To the left of the entrance are two 16-pane sash windows, each with a rendered keystone. Four similar sash windows are on the first floor. Two hipped dormers light the attic. A 20th-century two-storey garage extension is positioned on the left-hand side. The return façade, facing onto Peacock Lane, has a 16-pane sash window to both the ground and first floors. The interior retains remnants of the original timber framing, including wall posts and ceiling beams. Number 5 Peacock Lane is part of the original house, linked to Number 3 Penny Street.
