Description
The stables and outbuildings of numbers 72 and 74, known as The Cock Hotel, date from the mid-18th century. They are located at the end of the coach lane, facing northeast, and form part of the northwest range of stables. The building is tall, with two storeys, constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and topped with a slate roof that features a long skylight.
On the first floor, there are five windows, with the central window being round and having keys. A door is also present on the first floor, accompanied by later cast iron steps to the right. The ground floor features a central arched entrance with a keystone and imposts, flanked by two side entrances, one of which is blocked on the right. There are four casement windows with cambered heads on this level. Gilt lettering is displayed above the ground floor.
The boundary wall to the east of the coachway, along with the stables and outbuildings of numbers 72 and 74 and the former coach-house at the rear, form a cohesive group.
