Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a 16th and 17th century timber-framed cottage that has been restored. It is located on Church Walk, Bletchley, and was formerly known as Yew Tree Cottage, Church Green Road. The cottage has a thatched roof, with a lower pitch on the west side, likely over what was once an outhouse. The walls are a mix of plaster, wattle and daub, and brick infill. It is one storey high with a first floor in the attic. A later extension exists at the east end. Three wooden casement windows have been renewed, and three "eyebrowed" dormers are present on the south front, with one additional dormer above them at the eastern end. Originally, the cottage may have been an open hall in the centre. A staircase hall was added in the 17th or 18th century and has been recently rebuilt. A first-floor passage provides access to five bedrooms. The roof structure remains largely original, featuring purlins and collar trusses. The ground floor includes chamfered bressumers above fireplaces and bread ovens. Yew Tree Cottage is part of a noteworthy rural grouping with the Well House and Walnut Tree Cottage, both on Church Green Road.
