Description
This is a group of late 17th-century and early 18th-century buildings on High Street, Stony Stratford. Number 42 is a two-storey house with an attic, constructed of painted brick. It has two windows on the first floor, and a high-pitched tiled roof with one hipped dormer window. The windows are early sash windows with glazing bars, set under brick flat arches that fit into a raised band below the eaves. A modern shop front is present, sharing a fascia with Number 44. Numbers 44 and 46 were originally one house and were refronted in brick during the early 18th century. They are low, two-storey structures with three windows on the first floor, and are painted. They also have a tiled roof with a recessed dormer window. The first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The shop front of Number 44 is joined to that of Number 42. Number 46 has two modern shop fronts. Numbers 36 to 58 (even) on High Street form a group, with numbers 54 and 56 being of local interest.
