Description

These almshouses, now converted into four private houses, were originally founded in 1654 by Thomas Stafford of Tattenhoe. They are located on the east side of Shenley Road, Church End. The building is constructed of coursed limestone, with an old tile roof and four brick chimneys. The front has nine bays, with six two-light casement windows, each with a painted wood lintel. There are three pairs of doors positioned centrally and in the second bay from each end. A gable with an inscription and datestone sits above the central pair of doors. The roof includes six gabled dormers, each with a two-light casement. Modern rear extensions have been added. The building is documented in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, Volume II, page 258.
