Description

A pair of late 18th-century houses with shops, located on Rochester High Street. The buildings have been altered in later periods. They are constructed of red brick with a Kent tile mansard roof, featuring two dormers and an end stack on the right. The houses are two and a half storeys high and have a regular facade with four windows. No. 41 has horned sash windows; the first floor has 12 panes and the second floor has 6 panes. No. 43 has casement windows on the second floor and a first-floor canted oriel window with horned sashes, dating to the Victorian period in a 1:3:1 configuration. The shops have different frontages; No. 41 retains some Victorian details, including a moulded cornice and console bracket with open ironwork, while No. 43 has a mid-20th-century shop front, except for a single surviving console bracket. Late 18th-century panelling remains within No. 41 on the ground floor.
