Description
No. 53 High Street is a house with a shop, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a Welsh slate roof with a right-hand end stack. The building stands three storeys high and has a regular three-window arrangement. A parapet with stone coping and a cornice band adorns the top. The upper floors are fitted with 12-pane hornless sash windows, which have rubbed brick flat window arches and stone sills.
On the ground floor, an impost band connects round-headed arches over doorways on either side of a late 20th-century shop window that includes glazing bars. The ground floor is stuccoed and has a plinth. A bust of Charles Dickens is positioned above the left-hand door, and there are 20th-century doors with rectangular overlights. Additionally, there is a fluted lead rainwater head located between Nos. 51 and 53. The interior has not been inspected.
