Description

The Vine Inn is a circa 1840 building located on Castle Street. It is a three-storey structure with a stucco front and a gable end slate roof, where the eaves are concealed by a parapet. A projecting cornice and frieze adorn the building. The first floor features a recessed panel with a plain frieze and dentil cornice. The ground floor has a cornice and string course. There are two windows on the second floor, recessed and with sash windows that have later glazing bars and plain surrounds. Recessed panels are present to the side and centre of the windows. The first floor is distinguished by a centred, flat-fronted bow window of three lights, featuring sash windows with later glazing bars and pilaster strips that extend down into the apron, which includes panels below the side lights. A frieze and dentil cornice projects slightly to the front of the bow window. A ground floor string course is interrupted by doorways positioned on either side of a large, recessed, segment-headed sash window with later glazing bars and a block sill. The doorways have recessed four-fielded panel doors, each with two glazed upper panels and a semi-circular fanlight above. Doorways and windows are framed by architrave mouldings.
