Description

The grotto or well by the drive entrance to Peacock Vane dates from around 1830. It features a three-centred archway set in a rubble wall that has a weather-coped top. Above the apex of the arch, there is a broad drip mould that steps up, complemented by shield-carved spandrels. Inside, the grotto has a pointed stone vault, and the rear wall is adorned with a lion head water spout.
