Description
No 4 High Street is a commercial building dating from around 1860 to 1870, likely used as an ironmonger's shop. It stands three storeys tall and is finished in painted wood and stucco. The ground floor features a double shop front with plate glass, with colonettes that separate the curved corner lights, a recessed door, sloped sills, a painted cut glass fascia, and a blind bow cornice topped with ornate cast iron cresting. On the first floor, there are four arcaded windows divided by thin pilasters. The second floor has a sill course, with windows also divided by similar pilasters but featuring flat arches. The building is topped with a deep frieze, a projecting moulded cornice, and a parapet with moulded coping that breaks forward at the center, sweeping up on each side.
