Description
Wayside Cottage and Brighstone Post Office is a house and shop dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed clunch stone with red brick dressings and features a thatched roof with three brick chimneystacks. It has one storey and attics, with four windows, including four eyebrow dormers fitted with casement windows. The ground floor also has casement windows and two plank doors. At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut with a slate roof, while the left side gable is rendered. Inside, there is a blocked stone fireplace with a wooden bressumer, and a spine beam that has a chamfer and lambs tongue stop.
