Description

Priory Farmhouse, dating to the 16th century, has undergone alterations in the early and later 19th century. The farmhouse is arranged in an L-shaped plan and is constructed of stone rubble with substantial quoins. Some reused Norman stonework is visible, including zigzag detailing and fragments of a Norman window. A buttress, partially bricked, is visible on the right-hand side of the south front on the ground floor. The roof has a steep pitch, with a mix of old tiles and raised brick in the upper part of the gable ends, likely added in the late 18th century. The south garden front is symmetrical with three windows. These are early 19th-century sash windows, retaining their original glazing bars, and set within red brick surrounds. A stone label mould, partly intact and partly missing, runs above the ground floor windows. A two-storey canted bay window has been added to the east gable end. A wing to the north features 3-light 19th-century wood casements in splayed stone reveals, with a brick gable porch. The interior is said to contain a good 3-bay roof with tie beams, collars, and curved windbraces to the purlins.
