Description

Nos 83 and 85 on High Street is an 18th century house that may have origins from an earlier period. It was altered and enlarged in the mid-19th century. The building has two storeys and is constructed of painted brick, with a timber frame applied to the west end facing High Street. It features double gable ends and mansard roofs, partly covered with old tiles.

On the first floor, there are three sash windows with glazing bars and moulded flush wood architraves, while the ground floor has two sash windows. A Victorian gabled timber frame porch, which includes herringbone brick nogging, leads to a Tudor arched door.

The east front, which faces the garden, has two gables with decorative bargeboards. The gables contain sash windows similar to those on the High Street front, and there is a segment-headed casement window in the centre of the first floor. To the north side of the building, there is a first-floor bay window with three lights, glazing bars, plain strips, a frieze, and a cornice. Below, on the ground floor, there is a large five-light bay window with glazing bars, plain strips, a shallow cornice, a tiled hood with bargeboards, and a brick base.

To the south, there is a rectangular brick bay with a recessed sash window featuring glazing bars and a block sill, along with a French window in the centre of the ground floor.
