Description

This is an 18th and 19th century post office building on the north side of High Street, Carisbrooke. The building is two storeys, constructed with grey stone headers and red brick dressings, with a red brick band separating the ground and first floors. It has a stone rubble plinth and an old tile roof with shallow wood eaves. The roof is gable-ended. The front has three windows, the central one being blind. The windows are sash windows with moulded wooden frames and block sills. The ground floor windows have flat stucco arches. The central entrance has a recessed door consisting of two fielded panels and glazed panels above, topped with a narrow, rectangular fanlight and a moulded wooden architrave. Above the door is a stucco open pediment, topped by a gabled hood with bargeboards and a finial. The building forms a group with numbers 72 to 86 (even).
