Description
Jessamine Cottage is a Grade II listed cottage originally built in the late 18th century, consisting of three bays, as shown on the 1792 Ordnance Survey map. In the mid-19th century, two additional bays were added to the northeast. The cottage is constructed from stone rubble with brick dressings and features a thatched roof.
The southeast elevation has two casement windows on the left side, followed by an off-center projecting two-storey porch that includes a lancet window on the first floor and a quoined surround at the ground level. To the right of the porch, there is another casement window and a further casement with a gable above. A 20th-century brick glazed and wooden conservatory is also present. The northwest elevation has outshuts with mid-19th century slate roofs.
Inside, there is a straight flight staircase with stick balusters and a squat baluster-shaped newel post. Historically, this cottage served as the residence for the crew of an excise cutter during the 18th and early 19th centuries.
