Description

The stable block at Westover, which includes the eastern and western cottages, dates from the late 18th century and is quadrangular in shape. It stands two storeys high, constructed from stone rubble with a hipped slate roof. The central pediment features a cambered arch with a keystone. The cottages have had 20th-century casement windows inserted.

On the south front, there is a central pedimented gable with an oculus that has been filled in with flint. This façade includes sash windows with keystones and a cambered arch also adorned with a keystone. A mounting block is located outside the gable. Each side of the gable features three sash windows set within stone architraves that have keystones. The right side's ground floor has hinged sashes.

The west front contains six windows, primarily sash types with stone surrounds and keystones, with hinges on the ground floor windows. The left side features a cambered arch with a keystone and a stable door that has a semi-circular fanlight and sidelights, along with a cambered arch to the right side.

The north side showcases a central gable with three round-headed arches, each with a keystone, and a cambered carriage arch. The ground floor has two segmental openings and otherwise features modern casements. The east front has one paired casement. Facing the house are seven casements with vertical glazing bars and cambered openings on the ground floor, along with a large double garage opening. This stable block is noted as one of the grandest stable buildings on the Isle of Wight.
