Description

The Old Stable Shop at Arreton Manor is a former stable that has been converted into a shop and museum. It dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and has been altered in the 20th century. The building consists of three sections. The central part, which is from the 18th century, is constructed of island stone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a slate roof that is half-hipped on the left side. It has one 19th-century fixed sash window. The right side includes a fanlight above a stone door, while the center has a bow window from the 19th century. The left side features a fixed mullioned window.

The southern part of the building is of a lower elevation and has two storeys, also made of island stone rubble with a slate roof. The first floor has two later windows, with the left one set in an old quoined surround. The ground floor includes a later garage door on the left, a quoined stable door in the center, and a fixed four-pane casement window to the right, also in a quoined surround.

To the north, there is a 19th-century addition made of clunch blocks with a half-hipped slate roof, which is connected to a single-storey brick section from the 19th century that has a hipped slate roof. Inside, the building retains old wooden stall partitions and feeding troughs, a deep chamfered spine beam, and a through purlin roof with diagonal tension braces.
