Description
The Engine Shed at St John's Road Station is a purpose-built railway engine shed constructed around 1860, as indicated on the Ordnance Survey map of 1866. It is made of brick in English bond and features a slate roof, measuring approximately 72 feet long and 33 feet wide. The shed was designed to accommodate two engines for both running and maintenance purposes.
The exterior includes gable ends, with a circular window at one end and a blocked oculus at the other. There are also two round-headed arches featuring keystones, impost blocks, and double boarded doors. Inside, the shed has a wooden roof supported by queen posts and queen struts, along with regular glazed panels. This structure was built for the Isle of Wight Railway.
