Description
The Battery Hotel, built around 1830 to 1840, is a two-storey building made of rendered brick that has been painted. It features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with wide eaves. The first floor has three recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars and block sills, including a bay window with three lights that has later glazing bars, fluted pilasters, a cornice, and a panelled apron. The ground floor includes French windows and a recessed door on the east side, which has a plain hood supported by block consoles.
There is a mid-19th century addition on the west side, which is a four-sided stuccoed extension that is set back and also has a hipped slate roof. This extension has four recessed sash windows with glazing bars. Next to the main block, there is a projecting crenellated bay that contains one window and a door. The door is recessed and modern but retains a semi-circular fanlight, flanked by Tuscan pilasters, with a moulded arch above. The western ground floor window is tripartite and features similar dividing pilasters to the doorway, with moulded arches above the lights. Additionally, a single-storey service wing has been added to the west at a later date.
