Description

The Church of St John, located on High Park Road in Oakfield, was designed by architect T. Hellyer and construction began in 1843. It is built in the Early English style, featuring stone rubble, plate tracery, and lancet windows. A bellcot is situated over the west end of the church. The south aisle was added in 1870 by Hellyer, and the west end was originally extended to include a gallery. The transepts were enlarged at a later date, and in 1953, the east end was rebuilt with two additional bays added to the chancel by Sir Charles Nicholson. The church also includes a memorial chapel dedicated to Lord Calthorpe and has a clerestory with gabled dormers.
