Description
St John’s House is a building dating back to approximately 1820, constructed by General Amherst. It is now used as a school. The original portion of the house comprises seven windows. The construction is of coursed stone with ashlar quoins, and the three central window bays project forward. These projecting bays feature quoins at the angles and a pediment above containing a circular bull’s eye window. An eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The roof is slate covered. The windows are set within cemented architrave surrounds, and the glazing bars are missing. Later 19th-century additions have been made to the building.
