Description

31, The Strand is a villa dating from approximately the 1840s and 1850s. It is two storeys high with a basement and is faced with stone cut to resemble brick, with rendered quoins. The building has a low-pitched slate roof with wide eaves and lion heads decorating the guttering. A frieze and first-floor sill course run along the facade. There are four windows, with a two-storey bow extending to the east. These windows are recessed, with later sash windows and glazing bars, broad rendered surrounds, and block sills. The basement windows are dressed with yellow brick, and retain their original glazing bars. A recessed porch extends to the east, featuring a cornice and parapet. The porch contains a two-panel door, a semi-circular fanlight, and is flanked by moulded Doric pilasters supporting a keystone above the entrance. Steps with turned balusters and newly rendered piers lead up to the porch. Nos. 31 to 38 form a group.
