Description
This is a terrace of houses dating from approximately 1850 to 1860. The buildings are constructed of stucco over a brick and rubble core, with the roofs hidden behind parapets. The terrace is situated on a hillside and comprises three storeys over a basement. The buildings generally have a two-window bow front with sash windows with glazing bars, although some of the glazing bars are missing. The parapets feature a dentil cornice, and the first-floor windows have moulded surrounds. A continuous cast-iron balustrade runs along the first floor. The ground floor is rusticated, and the entrances are approached by a flight of six steps with returned railings leading to minimal pilaster porches. There's a mixture of railings and balusters in the dwarf walls fronting the road. Numbers 41 and 43 have more ornate detailing, while the houses at the northern end of the terrace have minimal decoration and the bow fronts begin from the first floor. Numbers 39-40, 43, and numbers 36-31 have had roughcast applied in the 20th century.
