Description

BRIGHTON

TQ3203NW BRISTOL ROAD 577-1/48/1125 (South side) Nos.28 AND 29 Stables

GV II

Stables. Early C19. Pebble in pitch with brick dressings. Shallow pitched roofs of tile, the ridge parallel to the long axis of each. U-shaped plan. 2 storeys. Scattered fenestration. Elevation to No.29 along Bristol Road has later shopfront. Elevation to courtyard of No.29 has the following features: 4 camber-arched entrances from courtyard, one round-arched window; the rest of the windows are camber arched; some blocked. The middle range, to the south of the courtyard, partly obscured by later additions. The eastern range mostly obscured by outbuilding of later date and of no distinction; this range shows the same variety of openings as that to the west. Included as a very rare surviving example of an early C19 livery stables building; group value.
