Description

Numbers 18 to 24 Charlotte Street are a group of early 19th-century terraced houses. They are constructed of stucco, with the upper floors of numbers 23 and 24 finished in mathematical tiles which have been painted. The roofs are obscured by a blocking course. The properties are arranged over four storeys and a basement, with each house featuring two windows. Each entrance is round-arched with a fanlight, and is accessed by a short flight of steps. The lintels above the doors of numbers 18 and 19 are decorated with a key pattern and a festooned urn on a plaque. The ground floors are rusticated. To the right of each entrance is a full-height segmental bay containing tripartite windows. All windows have flat arches; the sashes in numbers 23 and 24 retain their original design. Windows above the entrances of numbers 18 to 22 are blocked. The window sills of number 21 are moulded. First-floor balconies are present, with cast-iron railings, although these are missing from number 22. Cast-iron brackets are found at numbers 19, 21, and 24. Storey bands are positioned between the first and second floors, and the second and third floors of number 23. A cornice runs along the top of each house. Stacks are visible on the party walls. The interiors have not been inspected. Original railings are present to the stairs and area.
