Description

These are a pair of early 19th-century terraced houses located on the east side of Grafton Street in Brighton. The houses are stucco-faced, with the roofline hidden by a parapet. Number 6 has three storeys and an attic, set above a basement, while Number 7 has four storeys and a basement. Each house has two windows.

Both houses have paired, flat-arched entrances with overlights framed by Tuscan pilasters and an entablature decorated with garlands of laurel leaves, with a blocking course at the top. The ground floor of Number 6 is rusticated. A cornice runs along the attic level. Number 6 has a segmental bay window rising only to the second-floor cornice, while Number 7’s is a full-height, canted bay window. The tripartite windows in the bays, and those throughout the houses, are flat arched. The sashes in the second and attic floors above the entrance of Number 6 are of original design. Stacks are set within the party wall between the two houses. The interior was not inspected as part of the listing process.
