Description

This is an early 19th-century terraced house, formerly numbered 12 Grafton Street and now part of Northumberland Court on Marine Parade, Brighton. The building is stuccoed with a parapet hiding the roof. It rises four storeys over a basement and originally featured a three-window front. In the 20th century, a flat-arched entrance was constructed through a stair tower and foyer to connect the building with number 62 Marine Parade, after the entire block was converted into flats known as Northumberland Court. The ground-floor windows have ogee-headed tops with decorative surrounds, reminiscent of details added to the Royal Pavilion after 1817. The basement windows are cambered. The upper sashes of the original windows retain their original design, while the lower sashes are also original. Other windows have flat arches and original sashes. The facade is treated as a full-height, nearly full-width segmental bay. The interior remains uninspected.
