Description
This is a terrace of buildings forming one side of Adelaide Crescent. Designed in 1830 by Decimus Burton, the terrace was built between 1850 and 1860 using a different ground plan and simpler details for the developer, Isaac Lyon Goldsmid. The buildings are constructed with stucco over brickwork, and feature a modillion eaves cornice, moulded strings, and a rusticated ground floor. The roofs are slate. The curved design follows the sloping site, returning to the south with numbers 35 to 38 and number 20 abuts numbers 18 to 30 Palmeira Mansions. The terrace rises to five storeys over a basement, with three-window frontages. The windows have square heads, except those on the ground floor, which are round-headed. The fenestration is varied, predominantly consisting of sash windows without glazing bars, with some French casements to the first floor. Cast-iron balconies run around the flat-roofed pilaster porches. Fanlights and sidelights are present in the half-glazed doors. Cast-iron railings return from the entrances, extending along the street frontage and including gates to the areas.
