Description

The stables and kennels at Home Farm, located about 220 metres southeast of Foliejon Park, date from the early 19th century, with an extension added around the mid-19th century. The building features a Flemish bond red brick front and a weatherboarded timber-frame structure behind. It has a slate hipped roof with lead rolled hips and ridge, and later 19th-century brick stacks on the front.

The plan consists of a long rectangular stable range with a Palladian style brick north front that faces the park, while the south elevation is plain and faces the yard. There is a lower kennel wing that extends at right angles to the southeast, along with a small mid-19th-century wing at the front.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical arrangement of bays on the north front, consisting of one central bay flanked by three bays on each side. The centre and ends project forward and feature large round-arch recesses, with the centre adorned by a pediment, a brick stringcourse, and blind oculi on the first floor. The ground floor has round-headed windows, and to the right and left of the centre, there are dummy porticos with round arches and oculi, with the left portico concealed behind a single-storey wing that has a two-span gabled roof. The windows are sash with glazing bars and flat rubbed brick arches, and there is a single-storey bay on the right with a 12-pane sash window.

At the rear, the weatherboarded timber-frame has a window arrangement of 1:7:1, with advanced ends. The first floor features small casements, while the ground floor has stable doors and a canopy, along with a 12-pane sash window on the left and a single-storey one-bay range with a plank door on the left end. To the right, there is a single-storey kennel range that extends at right angles, complete with runs in front that are enclosed by railings with cast-iron posts. The interior has been altered.
