Description

The Lyford Tomb, located approximately 7 meters south of the priest's door in the churchyard on the south side of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed tomb. It serves as the headstone and footstone for William Lyford, who died in 1784. The tomb is made of stone and features a headstone with a shaped corniced top, which displays a low relief carving of corn and agricultural implements, along with an hourglass and skulls. The commemorative inscription is well carved and presented in doggerel verse. The footstone is marked with the initials and date "W.L. 1874."
