Description

Rackstraw Farmhouse, now a restaurant and wine bar, dates from the late 16th century and has been altered in the 18th century, with further alterations and extensions added in the mid-20th century. The house is constructed of a timber frame, largely concealed by red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with an old tile hipped and half-hipped roof.

The building is rectangular, comprising four framed bays with extensions to the rear. The two-storey south-facing entrance front has three bays, with the right-hand bay taller and hipped. It features a three-light and a four-light window on the ground floor, and a 20th-century glazed entrance door within a lean-to porch. Some of the original timber framing is visible on the return side.

Inside, the ground floor retains mostly chamfered joists with spearhead stops, although some are plain. A large inglenook chimney is present. On the first floor, the principal beams are chamfered with shield stops.
