Description

SU86SE LONDON ROAD 674-1/18/298 (North West side) 08/07/98 Chapel Square Nos 6, 7 and 8, Royal Military Academy

Cadets' quarters. Dated 1810. MATERIALS: yellow stock brick with ridge stacks and hipped slate roof. PLAN: single depth plan with 3 rear wings. STYLE: Late Georgian style. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2:7:2-window range. Symmetrical front with end sections set forward, a cornice and parapet, rubbed brick heads to central doorway with overlight and 6-panel door, similar entrances to middle of 3-window returns, and 6/6-pane sashes. Rear has plain cornice, outer wings 2 windows wide, shorter middle 1 window, with lead hoppers inscribed G R/1810. INTERIOR not inspected. HISTORY: probably built as part of the Old College (qv) by John Sanders. Forms part of the side of Chapel Square, looking on to the Chapel (qv).
