Description
Leytonstone House is a substantial building, likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of yellow brick and features a low hipped slate roof with a parapet. The house has three storeys and is five windows wide, with two-storey wings on each side. A projecting Doric porch adds to its architectural interest. The windows are square-headed with gauged heads, and the ground floor windows in the recessed wings are set within semicircular reveals. The house also has 20th-century plate glass casements and a cornice above the second floor. Inside, there is a turned baluster staircase, a Serlian window at the half landing, and a pilastered apsidal landing on the first floor. Leytonstone House was the residence of Sir Edward North Buxton, a friend of William Wilberforce.
