Description

A pair of gatepiers at the entrance to Overton Drive, likely built in the early 18th century, are made of rusticated Portland stone. Each pier features applied pilasters with enriched panels and Corinthian capitals, as well as a cornice and pedestal, although the finials are missing. The sides of the piers display the interlaced monograms of Sir Richard Child, the first Earl of Tylney. These gatepiers are part of the Colen Campbell rebuilding that took place between 1715 and 1722 and represent one of the original entrances to Wanstead Park.
