Description
The Church of St John the Baptist, built between 1832 and 1833 by E Blore, is a Grade II listed building. It has undergone alterations and additions in 1893, 1902, 1910, and 1929. The church is constructed of gault brick with stone dressings, and the south aisle is roughcast. It features a steeply pitched slate roof that extends to the eaves. The layout includes a nave, chancel, a southeast chapel dated 1909, low transepts, and a southwest tower designed in an early English Gothic style, complemented by Arts and Crafts Gothic south aisles. The nave has lancet windows and lacks a clerestory, while the south aisle features 2-light plate tracery with alternate groups that are taller and rise to form half dormers. The east end has stepped lancets. The square tower consists of three stages, an openwork parapet, and pinnacles, with a clock located on the second stage and an entrance on the south side. The interior has not been inspected.
