Description
The pillar box located outside number 56 Beeches Avenue in Carshalton is a Grade II listed structure. It is a larger version of the hexagonal cast-iron pillar box designed by J W Penfold in 1865 specifically for the London area. This particular box was produced between 1866 and 1879 by Cochrane and Co. It features an ogee domed top adorned with foliage and an oval finial. Above the letter opening, there is a royal coat of arms, and the initials "VR" are applied to the door of the pillar box.
