Description
The Church of the Good Shepherd, built in 1930 by Martin Travers and T F W Grant, is a Grade II listed building located on Queen Marys Avenue in Carshalton-on-the-Hill. Designed in the Spanish Baroque style, it is constructed of stock brick and features a copper roof. The church has seven bays, with the nave and chancel combined, and is supported by stepped buttresses. It includes a west bellcote and a porch, along with fixed metal casement windows.
Inside, the church boasts a barrel vaulted roof and a wooden altar rail with turned buttresses. Above the altar, there is a hieratic crucifix and five gold-painted star-shaped lights. The rear wooden organ loft is supported by massive console brackets and features a large wooden architrave. Additionally, there are two panels of stained glass depicting St. Nicholas and the Virgin and Child.
