Description

This is a "Penfold" type pillar box located beside number 48 at the junction with Parkhurst Road in Bexley. It dates from the period between 1872 and 1879 and was designed by architect J W Penfold, with casting done by Cochrane, Grove and Company. The pillar box is hexagonal and stands on a plinth with a cyma roll. It features the royal cipher VR and the royal arms above the posting aperture. The cap is adorned with a band of ball decoration and has a foliated top.
