Description

The building at 34 and 36 Bexley High Street was erected in 1787 as a parish workhouse. It is a two-storey structure built of yellow brick. The front has six windows with cambered heads. The shop fronts have been altered at various times. A contemporary door, featuring a bracketed hood supported on thin, panelled pilasters, is located to the right of centre. The building incorporates a parapet with a stone coping. There are three dormers with lead roofs. The steep tile roof is punctuated by end stacks. A course of bricks is visible below the upper-floor windows, with many bricks dated 1787 and bearing the initials of members of the parish vestry.
