Description
High Street House, located at 123 High Street in Bexley, was built in 1761. This two-storey building features five windows and is constructed of brown brick with a block cornice. It has a hipped tiled roof and a central doorway that is accessed by five steps. The doorway is flanked by engaged Ionic columns and topped with a pediment and a semi-circular fanlight. The door itself has six fielded panels. Above the doorway, the first-storey window is framed by a rusticated architrave surround. On either side of the house, there are recessed portions with block cornices and cat-slide roofs. The property is complemented by contemporary wrought-iron railings along the street. High Street House was built by John Thorpe, a local historian and antiquary, and it is marked with a blue plaque by the London Borough of Bexley.
