Description

The Manor House is a building with origins dating back to shortly after 1536, when the Manor of Bexley was sold to Oxford University, although an earlier building previously occupied the site. A north wing was added in the early 19th century. The earlier part of the house is two storeys high and has a stuccoed exterior, with three gables facing south and two facing west. It features sash windows with the bars removed, set in flush frames. A parapet runs along the top, and the roof is slate. The later north wing is constructed of yellow brick and has five windows, each with three lights. A central entrance is framed by an ornate stone archway, featuring broad panelled pilasters, a keystone, cornice, and a blocking course. Bracketed eaves and a hipped slate roof complete the wing. The return side has a simple three-light window on the ground storey, with a splayed head set within a sunken frame that decorates the entire wall.
