Description
The boundary walls to Beddington Place run along the east side of the churchyard and along Church Lane. These walls are believed to date from the 16th century and early 17th century, during the time of Sir Francis Carew, particularly the section along Church Lane. This wall extends east for several hundred yards from the corner with the boundary wall to the east of the churchyard. It is constructed of red brick with battered coping, roll moulding, a dentil course, and a plinth. The wall is very high and rounded at the western corner but decreases in height towards the east. There is a gateway featuring a Gothic arch, a plain parapet, and buttresses. East of the gateway, the wall is supported by additional buttresses. The coping has been damaged in places, and the brickwork requires repair.
The boundary wall along the east side of the churchyard is likely also from the 17th century. The northern and southern sections are made of brick with battered coping, while the middle section is much lower, featuring a tile course and plain capping, which appears to be of a later date. There are three brick pilasters with stone capping.
These walls form a group with several nearby structures, including the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, lychgates, churchyard walls, the orangery wall, the gate and screen, the pigeon house, and Beddington Park Cottages.
