Description

Beddington Place, built in the later 1860s by Joseph Clarke, features two long wings that extend westward from the north and south ends of the Great Hall. These wings are connected at their west ends by a one-storey corridor. The exterior is designed in a Gothic style that resembles the casing of the Great Hall, constructed from red brick with stone dressings and topped with tile roofs. The building has a castellated parapet and stands two storeys high, with ornamental brick stacks in a Tudor style. Each wing has four window bays at the west end, with gables over the two inner bays. It is likely that these wings are positioned along the lines of a 16th-century house, closely following the ground plan outlined in Vitruvius Britannicus from 1717, although they have been extensively rebuilt. Beddington Place is listed due to its group value with the nearby Church and Churchyard, Dovecot, and East Lodge, among other structures in the area.
