Description
The Stone Cross and Drinking Fountain, located on Ewell Road in Cheam, was erected in 1895. It is made of stone and features a tapering shaft topped with a richly ornamented cross. The shaft merges into a tall rectangular pedestal that has an embattled band and a carved inscription at the top, along with a moulded base. This pedestal rests on a circular platform. On each side of the pedestal, there are small rounded water basins supported by faceted shafts that connect to the base of the pedestal. A carved inscription encircles the pedestal, stating: "To the glory of God and in loving Memory of those gone before This fountain is erected by the Sons and daughters?/? Matilda Farmer April 1895."
